5 Ways to Increase Your Property Curb Appeal

When it comes to your property’s curb appeal, there are dozens of things you can do to increase the attractiveness of your house, including changing your landscaping, repainting the exterior, and adding a garage door and fence. But often overlooked is the care that you need to put into your plants and trees on your property, which can be accentuated by trimming regularly. Follow these 5 steps on how to increase your property’s curb appeal with regular plant trimming to make sure all eyes are focused on what you want them to focus on when people drive by your house.

1) Cut back overgrown bushes

It is important to keep plants trimmed and bushes cut back. If a bush is overgrown, it will not only be more difficult for people walking by your property, but also it will make your property look unkempt and unattractive.

The right trimming will increase the curb appeal of your home by making it look more manicured. You can use garden shears or clippers to trim branches from any shrubs or hedges that require a haircut. Be careful when cutting near the ground, as these can damage soil structure if done incorrectly.

2) Edge along the driveway and sidewalks

For a property that is looking for curb appeal, trimming the edges along the driveway and sidewalks can help keep it looking fresh. Use a string line or chalk line to measure how much needs to be trimmed away from the walkway. You'll want to make sure that you go out far enough on both sides of the sidewalk so that it doesn't look like one side is lower than the other when someone walks down it.

When you cut back the edges of your walkways, also take this opportunity to clear any debris that has built up over time. Afterward, sweep everything up again so it will be easier to keep things clean in the future.

3) Remove dead leaves and branches

Regular plant trimming will result in healthier, more attractive landscaping. Dead leaves and branches should be removed regularly, as they are unsightly and can block the sun from reaching your beautiful plants. With the proper care, you could double or even triple the life expectancy of your current plants. 4) Prune tree branches

Prune tree branches at least once a year. Do this by cutting out any dead or diseased branches, and trimming the tips of branches to maintain their shape. Keep in mind that you'll need to prune more if your tree is in an area that gets lots of suns. Make sure not to cut away more than one-third of the total canopy when doing so. You should also look for broken, damaged, or rubbing bark. If you find any, remove it as well.

5) Fertilize and water your plants

If you want your plants to look their best, make sure you fertilize them regularly and keep them watered. It is very important for the health of your plants that you keep the soil moist at all times. If a plant is not getting enough water, it will start producing leaves instead of flowers or produce dead leaves. A plant needs water to grow.

There are two basic categories when it comes to watering, deep watering and surface watering. Deep watering refers to allowing the entire root system of the plant to be soaked; this is usually done once every one or two weeks. Surface watering means applying water directly onto the surface where foliage is present on the plant; this should be done several times each week.
